Summer is almost over, and most of us find ourselves super busy once fall hits. It's time to capitalize on dwindling daylight and good weather to create tons of content for your social media accounts.
In this post, we'll cover how to stock up on content before the end of summer (which is fast approaching). Whether you need to catch up after a few months of infrequent posting, or you want to get ahead, here's how to build up your content, fast.
Need to create a bunch of content, fast?
The best way to ensure that you have consistent social media content is to create content on a regular schedule. In a perfect world, that's peachy.
In the real world, we get busy and unexpected things pop up that interfere with creating social content. Or, posting gets tedious... and we intentionally put it off. Not to mention, we have jobs or businesses to run!
Every content creator has found themselves low on shareable content, low on time and low on creative energy. We feel you!
So, stock up and get your content done in 1-2 days. That's what this social media content planning guide will help you do. It will help you stock up on lots of great content, no matter how busy or drained you are. If you're simply trying to be proactive, we think you'll love this too.
Social content guide to close out summer with a bang
There are many reasons why someone would want to stock up on content.
Maybe you're launching a new product soon and need tons of content to build excitement on your social media accounts. Maybe fall is the busiest time of year for your business (yay!), but you don't want to let your social media engagement falter.
No matter your reasons, get ready to create a bunch of content in a short amount of time! Here is a step-by-step guide to plan and create your content ASAP.
Step 1 - Brain dump
Get a pen, paper or your phone. Start brainstorming great social media content ideas for TikTok, Youtube, Instagram and wherever else you need to post.
Here are some things to think about as you brainstorm these post ideas:
- What have your social media followers asked you recently?
- What have you seen competitors do?
- Is there a TikTok challenge going around?
You know your niche or industry the best, so start writing down ideas. Don't organize anything yet!
Step 2 - Idea hunt
Now that you've quickly and thoroughly raked your brain, go find more leads in the big wide world. This will help generate even more content ideas and validate the ones you thought up yourself.
Where should you look for content ideas? Here are some places:
- Social media DMs from followers
- Comments on your previous posts
- Google search bar (start typing and see what it suggests)
- Hashtag results
- Website blog (yours and your competitor's)
Even after a quick search, you'll have a really long list of ideas that can help you stock up on content! You might be antsy to start actually creating the content for your socials, but don't! We'll get there.
First, lets see if we can streamline the amount of work you'll have to do...
Step 3 - Waterfall content
When you're in a hurry to stock up on content, don't recreate the wheel! Have you ever heard of a waterfall content strategy?
The waterfall content strategy is simply taking a piece of content and breaking it up. The original piece may have been a blog post, podcast, free eBook or other piece you've already created.
From there, you use that original piece to create several smaller posts, videos, Instagram Reels or whatever else you need. However, instead of creating just one social media post from it, split up the topic into several little pieces.
Here's an example: You already have a blog on your travel website, so you scour that content for viable social media posts. You find an old blog about your first trip to Madrid. It's a long blog post that covers your plane ride, your favorite dishes, the weather and where you stayed.
Just from the information above, here are some waterfall content ideas that you could turn into social media posts:
- How to get the cheapest airfare to Madrid
- The nutritional benefits of Spanish cuisine
- How locals dress for the weather in Madrid
- Top 10 places to stay in Madrid for under $50 per night
What a way to stock up on content from something you've already created! Don't forget: These subtopics need to appeal to your target audience.
Step 4 - Content clouds
With a ton of awesome content ideas for social media, it's time to organize them into something logical and manageable.
Start grouping ideas into content clouds. Some ideas are main topics, others are subtopics. But luckily, every one of those ideas can be an individual video, post or picture.
Within a few minutes, you'll see some viable ideas appear from the brainstorming mess. Each content cloud may also serve a different purpose to grow your brand, including product sales and brand awareness.
Step 5 - Productivity flex
Now, the moment you've been waiting for (or dreading): content creation. When you're short on time, it's best to work on content when you have the most creative energy.
Block out a few hours, and start writing and filming. It will be most efficient to set up your equipment once and then knock out a bunch of videos in a row.
Time for a social takeover
Once you record footage for your TikTok videos or Instagram Reels, you'll just need a few more hours to splice everything together.
